Karalundi College is a coeducational, Grades 7-10 Christian boarding school which serves the Aboriginal people of Western Australia.  The community is situated 60km north of Meekatharra on the Great Northern Highway.  The school is a member of the Association of Independent Schools WA and has a close relationship with Seventh-day Adventist Schools WA Ltd.

About the Opportunity

Karalundi College now has an exciting opportunity for a Deputy Principal to join their school community.

Reporting to the Principal, this newly created role is primarily responsible for the educational leadership and management of all school staff, as well as contributing to the establishment and maintenance of a supportive school environment and learning culture.

Key duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Assisting the Principal in educational planning and program evaluation;
  • Leading and mentoring educational staff;
  • Actively assisting the Principal in promoting the Karalundi College educational program to parents/caregivers, family groups and regional communities; and
  • Teaching one subject across 4 to 8 periods per week (ideally practical/life skills to aid students in gaining employment).

You will also be contributing to the development and implementation of Karalundi's objectives as well as the management and further development of school personnel, technology and resources to ensure optimum performance. Of course, you will consistently exercise a duty of care to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students within the care of the college.

About You

To be considered for this role, you must hold the legal right to work in Australia as well as registration with the Teacher Registration Board of WA and a current Working With Children card (or be eligible to obtain).

You must have proven experience in school management or educational leadership with a strong understanding of curriculum, policy and the ability to submit school registration requirements.

Exceptional communication, planning and time management skills will be essential to your success in this role, as will your ability to problem solve and demonstrate experience in conflict management and resolution.

As a key member of the community living on-site, you will need to be enthusiastic and actively involved in the school and after-school activities. Whilst a practicing Seventh-day Adventist teacher would be the ideal candidate, someone who is supportive of Christian education and respectful of Christian beliefs will also be considered.

Please note: You will need to hold (or be willing to obtain) a Light-Rigid ‘LR Class’ driver’s licence and ideally have access to your own vehicle.
